📖Importance of Reading📚

‘Importance of reading.’ Some people might groan at that title and be like, “Who wants to read?” but no! Reading transports you to another world full of magic and wonder and the best thing is you dont even need to leave your house! You escape from reality to the world of fantasy and fun. Reading makes you cry, laugh, shiver and what not. You become part of the character, feeling angry at a particular person and fond of another. The writer makes his/her decriptions so vivid that you can create a mental simulacra of whats going on. Reading relaxes your mind and gives you the feeling that you are capable of doing anything! It soothes you and rids you of depression and anxiety as it is a mindful exercise. People who don’t read are missing out on half their lives! The Strange Signpost

The evening sun cast long shadows on the rough and barren land. The trees were dancing in the breeze as the wind blew around rhythmically. The jet, black horse whinnied, his knees buckling, partially due to the cold and half afraid of the unknown. The travellers looked around, shivering, uncertain of where to go. Shadows loomed over them, the trees whispering ominously. The travellers wandered around, looking for a place to spend the night in.  The rocky ground was covered with clumps of grass and heather here and there, hiding their path. Suddenly one of the travellers caught a glimpse of a faded signpost on the heath. Forgetting his weariness and fatigue he ran towards it.

🍽Eating a Cookie🍪

The sweet fragrance of cookies enveloped my kitchen.  The fresh, sweet smell wafted down my nostrils, making my mouth water. I held the delicious, crumbly cookie in my hand admiring the perfection in its roundness. I took a small piece and left it on my tongue for a few seconds to savour the scrumptious flavours coming from it. The moment I chewed the warm chocolate chunk , it  burst into my mouth filling it with a lava of gooey delight. A pleasurable crunch lingered around my ears as the cookie entered my mouth, only to crumble and melt on the inside ; so heavenly tasty that the sweetness tingled my taste buds till some time.

Yummy!

A Heart-wrenching Episode

My eyes brim with fresh tears everytime I think about it. The screeching of tyres. The crack of a gunshot. The scream. The pool of fresh blood surrounding the dead corpse. The ache in my heart. The day my life took an unexpected turn. Let me explain how it all happened.

It was a dry and torrid day in the month of May. Despite the gloomy weather, my mood was cheerful. Today was my last day of school before the holidays. I sang gaily as I ate my breakfast, waiting in anticipation for tomorrow when I could sleep in. I had my summer vacation all planned out. Suddenly I heard the loud screeching of tyres against the rough pavement My heart in my mouth, I ran outside as an ominous gunshot rang in my ears. “Noooooo!” I screamed running towards my sister but it was too late. My sister screamed as she fell on the ground with a deafening thud as a man dressed in all black with his face covered jumped into his car running away from my dad who was pursuiting him and away he went, far and beyond. A pool of fresh, red blood surrounded my sister and then I knew. She had breathed her last. Tears streaming down my face I ran to the side of my late sister. Her eyes were closed and her mouth was twisted in a shape of agony. I brushed away from her face, the sticky hair. My parents pulled me back, their eyes misty and cracked voices as they explained that the body would be post-mortemed and I was destroying evidence. The next day the funeral was held and there was a lot of greiving and mourning. There were a lot of people but then what can I say? She was pretty popular. Just then a sickening realisation dawned on me. I never got to school yesterday…………

✈️Travelling in Quarantine😷

Travelling and quarantine. These are two words that are worlds apart. I mean literally. They have no comparison. Travelling in the pandemic is not exactly easy, but then it’s a new experience! Some people might find it a bad idea but some might go for it. Let me help you make up your minds. At the airport there was NO air conditioning and it was mandatory to keep a mask on at all times. The public washrooms should be avoided at all costs. There were strict SOPs and social distancing was vital. They checked your temperature at every point. In the plane they either gave some kind of packed food or no food at all. Even sleeping was to be done with a mask being worn. In all places especially malls, people were stopped by the staff and were told to wear a mask. At every shop you went in your temperature was checked. Imagine getting your temperature checked fifty times a day! No testing of cosmetics was allowed and after articles of clothing were tried on they were steam pressed and put in quarantine cabinets for twenty-four hours before being displayed in the shop again. A lot activities were closed due to customer safety and every where there were signs reminding you to maintain social distance. A wide range of masks was at every kiosk, available for sale. That pretty much covers it and oh, don’t forget to quarantine yourself for a fortnight after returning. Now, the descision depends on you. Whether you decide to take the risk and travel or not!

The Abandoned House

The ancient and abandoned house looked like someone had suddenly left it while having breakfast. The brown door was covered in a layer of dust, unopened for years. Large, stocky, charcoal black, boots stood in the doorway dominating the house. A box of cereal stood next to a bowl filled with cornflakes and milk, now spoiled. Newspapers were spread across the table which dated back to ‘1857’. A pile of untidy and grimy clothes was heaped behind the door, as a broom lay on the floor, protected in a nest of dust. The ceiling stooped downwards, full of cracks and leaks. A dusty bookshelf stood quietly in the corner filled with old, leather bound books about history. They were, as you could imagine, muddy and dusty. Below the bookshelf crumbling china teacups and saucers lay, abandoned in a messy state. The only source of light was a miniscule window in the corner which was covered from the outside by ferns and climbing plants. The floor had bugs and insects crawling everywhere, making the floor even filthier. Who had left this place in such a hurry and why had they? What was the reason and when exactly was it done? These questions still remain unanswered as this place holds a dark and mysterious secret unknown to all.

Reality 🆚 Fantasy

Although they seem worlds apart fantasy and reality are deeply connected to each other. Fantasy isn’t coherent without reality; reality might not be as exciting without fantasy. Fantasy shows us exciting new worlds while reality teaches us basic concepts of understanding and empathy. Escaping into a fantasy world is NOT a bad thing. Living in a fantasy world can help you imagine and create the life that you need, in a short period of time. However, living in reality is harder but facing the truth is ALWAYS better. I would say that too much fantasy is not too good but living in the world of reality can be too much at times. Sometimes you need a world where you can escape in, so life should have both, REALITY and FANTASY.

Lockdown Haircut Drama

Due to lockdown in, all the shops are closed. Barbers, malls, restaurants, department stores,  etc. so, not getting a haircut is a common problem for all, especially men and boys. I will tell you of an incident which will bring lighthearted mood in this severe time.

My brother’s hair had grown very, and it looked like a shaggy mane of a Shetland pony. It was covering his eyes, ears and the nape of his neck. Whenever he did homework my mom used to make him wear a headband. One day my mother couldn’t manage it anymore, so she decided to cut his hair. She spread a mat in the porch and put a chair on it. She took her special barber scissor and a water spray bottle and wet outside. My dad suggested why doesn’t she used his trimmer. She thought that was a splendid idea so that was brought outside too. As my mother started to cut my brothers hair with the trimmer, he let out a howl of anguish. “ What happened darling?” my mom asked paranoid. A trickle of blood ran down my brother’s forehead answering my mom’s question. My dad sauntered through the porch whistling happily  but when he saw the blood he stopped, dead in his tracks. “What? How?” he asked in bewilderment. My mom raised the trimmer in an apologetic manner. My dad wiped my brother head with a tissue. Luckily it was just a small scratch. Nothing to worry about. So, the process of my mom being a barber started again. The hair was been cut perfectly when the trimmer ran out of charge. My mom groaned while my brother let out a sigh of impatience. Then my mom started to use the scissors and when suddenly, my brother jerked, and some gigantic locks tumbled downwards. Oops the hair had gotten cut so much from one end that you could see my brothers scalp. From one end the hair was untouched and somewhere else the hair was perfectly cut. Oh my! My brother looked like he had got hold of a pair of scissors and had given himself a diy haircut. My mom dropped the scissors with a clang and she gasped, her mouth forming a perfect O. my brother dashed inside, looked at himself in the mirror and screamed, “My hair!” my mom burst in tears and apologized to my brother as he looked smug since our mom barely ever had to apologize to us. My mom went back outside picking up the mat and chair while looking miserable since her plan had epically failed.
